She is not fearless, but rather she is courageous bc she keeps writing despite and about, her own self-hatred, insecurities, and the way the 99.9% of the voices of women of color and particular size get mocked and systematically silenced and ignored every moment of every day. Gay’s writing can be strident but it’s never hyoocritical she herself is her own most devastating critic. And only if they worship flies would someone resent the lioness batting it around a few times before smushing it into the dirt. I mean, Instagram captions versus Roxane Gay?! It’s like a persistent fly buzzing around the mane of a magnificent lioness.
